How to wear a bracelet as a man

A bracelet is the easiest piece of jewellery for men to start with. It sits at the cuff, it shows when you move, and it works with a T-shirt as well as a jacket. The outfits below show one bracelet, a cuff, small stacks and bracelets worn next to a watch, with every piece tagged.

01

Start with one bracelet

One thin bracelet on the wrist you don't wear a watch on is the simplest way in. Pick a colour close to the rest of what you wear: silver with steel and cool tones, gold or brass with brown, cream and olive.

It should move a little on the wrist without sliding over the hand. Too tight and it looks borrowed; too loose and it catches on everything.

02

Choose a cuff for more presence

A rigid cuff carries more visual weight than a chain, so it can be the only piece you wear. A hammered or brushed surface looks more casual than a polished one and suits denim and heavy cotton.

Open cuffs are adjusted by gently pressing the ends together. Do it once to fit and leave it, since bending metal back and forth weakens it.

03

Stack two or three, not more

A small stack works when the pieces differ in width or texture but share a colour: a cuff with a thin chain, or two slim bracelets of different weights.

Two or three is usually the limit for everyday wear. Beyond that the wrist starts to look like the point of the outfit.

04

Wear it next to a watch

A bracelet and a watch can share a wrist when the bracelet is slimmer than the watch and sits above it, towards the elbow, so the two don't knock together. Wearing them on separate wrists is the quieter option.

Match the metals where you can. A steel watch with a silver bracelet looks deliberate; mixing in a third metal rarely does.

05

Give it room to show

Short sleeves, or long sleeves pushed back a little, let the bracelet be seen. Under a jacket cuff it disappears, which is fine if that is what you want.

Plain tops and simple colours around it keep the jewellery readable. A busy print and several bracelets compete with each other.

Questions

Which wrist should a man wear a bracelet on?

There is no fixed rule. Most men wear it on the wrist without a watch, which keeps both pieces from rubbing. If you wear both on one wrist, put the bracelet above the watch.

Can you wear a bracelet with a watch?

Yes. Keep the bracelet slimmer than the watch, match the metals and let the watch be the larger piece.

How many bracelets can a man wear?

One is enough on its own. Two or three of different widths make a small stack; more than that tends to look busy for everyday outfits.

Do bracelets work with smart casual outfits?

A single slim bracelet or a plain cuff in silver or gold fits most smart casual settings. Save larger stacks for weekends.
