What to wear with suede sneakers

Brown suede is the easiest colour to wear. It goes with every wash of denim, with cream and sand trousers, and with brown or green on top.

Repeat the brown once higher up, in a flannel shirt, a beanie or a jacket, so the shoes look like part of the outfit rather than an afterthought.

Black suede suits darker, cooler outfits: grey or faded black jeans, a black hoodie, a navy or charcoal layer. It is the sharpest of the colours and a good choice when the rest of the outfit is plain.

A red suede sneaker works when it is the only strong colour in the outfit. Keep the rest to cream, navy, light denim and grey.

If you want to tie it in, repeat the red very lightly: a stripe in a T-shirt or the stitching on a cap.

Grey and blue suede sit well in outfits built around denim. Pair blue suede with navy and indigo layers for a tonal look, and grey suede with washed grey jeans and a white top.

Sneakers with orange, green or mixed suede panels need a quieter outfit around them: a white or striped top, light jeans and one neutral jacket. Let the shoes be the only part of the outfit that asks for attention.

Suede sneakers look best under plain jeans or canvas trousers whose hem rests on the shoe. Wide and relaxed legs suit the chunkier suede styles; straight jeans suit the slimmer court shapes.
